State Representative D.J. Swearingen has announced the signing of the Parents’ Bill of Rights into Ohio law. This legislation, a priority for the 135th General Assembly, was co-sponsored by Swearingen and former State Representative Sara Carruthers.

The new law mandates that schools must inform parents about any changes in their child's mental, emotional, or physical health. Additionally, it prohibits schools from encouraging students to keep these changes from their parents.

“I’m grateful to see the Parents’ Bill of Rights officially cross the finish line,” stated Swearingen. “This critical legislation will ensure parents have a voice when it comes to the health and wellbeing of their children.”

Furthermore, the bill requires school districts to implement a religious release time policy. The Parents’ Bill of Rights is set to take effect in 90 days.
