The House Transportation Committee commenced hearings on House Bill 234, which aims to designate a segment of State Route 2 in Ottawa County as the Cpl. Robert Dockstader Memorial Highway. This initiative was announced by State Representative D.J. Swearingen from Huron.

Corporal Robert Dockstader, a combat veteran from Port Clinton, completed two tours of duty. His first tour spanned from 1989 to 1993 and his second from 2005 to 2006. During his military service, he held roles as a platoon radio operator and squad leader.

"This legislation, while a small gesture, will hopefully honor Corporal Dockstader, his family, and friends," stated Swearingen during the sponsor testimony. "We must bring attention to those Americans who demonstrate virtue and put themselves in harm’s way so that others may live safely and comfortably."

A former colleague described Corporal Dockstader as possessing "expertise, calm, with an unflappable demeanor under duress."

House Bill 234 is pending further review by the House Transportation Committee.
