The Parents’ Bill of Rights, a key legislative priority for the 135th General Assembly, has been forwarded to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for approval. This was announced by State Representative D.J. Swearingen from Huron, who sponsored the bill.

The proposed legislation aims to safeguard parents' rights in guiding their children's upbringing, education, healthcare, and mental health. It mandates schools to notify parents about any changes concerning their child's mental, emotional, or physical health.

“It is critical that parents have a seat at the table when it comes to their children, and this legislation encourages parents and schools to partner together for the wellbeing of our children,” stated Swearingen.

In its current form, the bill also introduces measures to clarify and limit some provisions of the original proposal. Additionally, it requires school districts to implement a religious release time policy.

The Parents’ Bill of Rights now awaits Governor DeWine's signature.
