Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed House Bill 81 into law, as announced by State Representative D.J. Swearingen. The bill includes two initiatives spearheaded by Swearingen.

The first initiative, House Bill 335, involves the designation of a section of State Route 163 in Ottawa County as the Ottawa County Veterans Memorial Highway. Swearingen expressed his intent behind this measure: “Renaming this highway is a small way to honor the great legacies of bravery and selflessness these men and women left behind,” he said. “I hope this highway serves as a reminder of their sacrifices and as a general testament to the fortitude of Ohioans as a whole.”

The second measure under House Bill 81 is House Bill 289, which focuses on updating Ohio's Sex Offender Registration and Notification (SORN) laws. This update aims to enhance community safety across the state. “I am committed to fighting for policy that makes our communities safer and stronger,” stated Swearingen. “This legislation will make sure those who take advantage of the most vulnerable are held accountable.”

House Bill 81 is set to become effective in 90 days.
