The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Bill 380, which will designate twenty-nine roads and bridges throughout the state, according to State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron). The bill includes two initiatives led by Swearingen to honor individuals who impacted the 89th House district.

House Bill 318 will name a portion of State Route 269 near the Village of Castalia as Scott G. Gast Memorial Highway. “Scott was a pillar of the local community, and it is my belief he should be honored not just for his own sake but as an inspiration and reminder for kids and young adults that one can both energetically follow their passions while being professionally accomplished,” said Swearingen.

House Bill 335 will designate a segment of State Route 163 in Ottawa County as Ottawa County Veterans Memorial Highway. “Renaming this highway helps keep the memories and sacrifices of these brave men and women alive in the hearts and minds of not only their many families, but also as a general testament to the fortitude of Ohioans as a whole,” Swearingen stated.

Additionally, the Ohio House passed House Bill 289, also sponsored by Swearingen, which aims to enhance community safety by updating Ohio’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification (SORN) laws. “This legislation ensures that all who have violated the community’s trust receive equal justice,” said Swearingen. “We have a responsibility to make sure those who take advantage of the most vulnerable are held accountable.”

Both pieces of legislation now move to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
