A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Ottawa County regarding their FOIA logs on October 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Vacationland Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
We requested the following records under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., preferably in electronic format: A list of FOIA logs that were sent to Ottawa County from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested fields included: Requester Name, Requester Organization, Request Content, Request Date, Request Complete Date and FOIA Status.
As members of the media, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
