The average electricity rate per kWh in April 2019 was 6.12 cents, 13.6 percent higher than in 2020. When the energy market in Ohio was deregulated it allowed customers to shop around for the provider that would best suit their needs. Lawmakers hoped to create competition to provide lower costs and increased reliability for consumers.
